Dubai To Mourn Death Of Ruler’s Son Who Passes Away At Just 33
A three-day mourning period has been announced in the UAE after the son of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, died of a heart attack on Saturday morning, September 19.
The 33-year-old was the eldest son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the ruler of Dubai and also the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.
Flags at government departments and institutions flying at half mast as a mark of respect.
“Today, I lost a best friend and a childhood companion, my dear brother Rashid,” said his brother Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. “You will be missed.”
President Sheikh Khalifa expressed condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the Al Maktoum family.
There were prayers at Zabeel mosque on Saturday evening and he was buried afterwards in Umm Harir cemetery in Bur Dubai.
“God bless the deceased young man … We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return,” the Court of the Ruler of Dubai said.
Sheikh Rashid was known for his love of horses and was a keen football fan.
A keen sportsman, he also won two gold medals riding in endurance races at the Asian Olympics in 2006.
