Lost Sheep Roams Without Haircut For Five Years, And Then Something Amazing Happens!

Look at this woolly jumper – it seems that a sheep is stuck inside. It’s a sorry state of affairs for the poor beast!

Members of the public have been reporting the presence of a huge, unshorn sheep on the border of Canberra and NSW for weeks. And officers of the RSPCA* were finally able to capture it.

*RSPCA – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The big fella has been named Chris.

Chris was taken to the local RSPCA where the call was put out for a shearer to come down and remove the sheep’s coat ASAP.

Thankfully, Australia’s sheep shearing champion Ian Elkins answered the call and came to help.

The epic haircut took place last Thursday morning.

A team of five shearers worked more than 40 minutes.

There was A LOT of wool… So, they went back for a second round of shearing.

You can barely see the sheep’s body among the wool.

In the end they removed 40.45kg of fleece. (That’s 89lbs!)

This woolly coat broke the old world record of New Zealand’s hermit ram dubbed Shrek. It took six years to grow his massive fleece that weighed 27 kilograms (60.5 pounds) when it was clipped in 2004.

The sheep was kept for observation for a few days before hopefully being adopted by a loving family.
