80-Year-Old Woman Arrested Over Possession Of 68 Live Catridges
An 80-year-old woman identified as Comfort Izedomwen has been arrested by the police command in Edo state on Monday, October 19, for unlawful possession of 68 live cartridges, The Punch reports.
It was reported that Izedomwen was arrested after her accomplice, one Stella Omobude, was nabbed with 32 live cartridges on October 8.
Confirming the arrest, the state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike, said that Izedomwen was nabbed at Ekae village in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state.

The commissioner said: “On October 8, based on credible information, operatives and tactical units of the command raided Ecbueren village, along Benin-Auchi road, and arrested one Stella Omobude, aged 48 years, a peddler of cartridges to suspected armed robbers.
“Thirty-two live cartridges were recovered from her. Her confessions led to the arrest of one Comfort Izedomwen, aged 80 years, of Ekae village, Benin City. Sixty-eight live cartridges were recovered from her as well.”
Confessing her crime, the octogenarian said that she started peddling ammunition six months ago, after she suffered a medical condition in her leg.

Izedomwen further claimed that the cartridges were sold to hunters and private security operatives at the cost of N250 each.
She said: “I sell to them at N250, but I don’t know what they do with it; that is what I do for a living.”
The commissioner noted that Izedomwen kept silent on the whereabouts of her children and husband.
The Edo state commissioner of police had explained that 48-year-old Omobude claimed to have been introduced to the act by the 80-year-old woman.
Ezike added that the accomplice was nabbed at Evbueren village along the Benin-Auchi road by police operatives who raided the area.
Aside from speaking on the two cartridge dealers, the police commissioner, also paraded 71 other suspected criminals at the state headquarters in Benin.
Meanwhile, as part of the ‘ember months’ programme of the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to rid the state of criminals and hoodlums hiding in the dark to commit crime, the state police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) is said to have arrested over 40 social miscreants at different black spots in the state.
