Biafra: Igbo Muslim group warns easterners

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

The group also condemned all attacks on mosques, adding that those who want to separate from Nigeria, do not love the nation.

The Ndi Igbo Muslim Forum of Nigeria (NIMEN) in a statement issued by their Secretary, Nnamdi Muhammad Sani said they are not happy with the constant attack on members of the Muslim community in the South-East.

The group also condemned all attacks on mosques, adding that those who want to separate from Nigeria, do not love the nation.

An excerpt of the statement obtained from Leadership Newspapers reads: “The Forum, therefore, urges the protesters seeking separation from Nigeria to avoid causing what is inimical to the interests of the Igbo nation in the midst of other nationalities making up this great country Nigeria.

“We condemn in strong terms the unfortunate and unprovoked attacks on the Onitsha Central Mosque on the 2nd December, 2015. We equally condemn the verbal threats on the lives and properties of Muslims community in the south eastern part of this country because such act is uncalled for, and against the fundamental rights to worship and association, as well as the ethics of peaceful protests under the law of the land.”

Adding that “We also call on the Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, to prevent any recurrence of such incident in the state and compensate those affected from the attacks and reconstruct the burnt Mosque in Onitsha.

“We call on Muslims in the Southeast to remain calm and go about their lawful and normal daily businesses. The Igbo Muslims are adjudged as the most peaceful, but marginalized set of the Nigerian people. However, they have been the uniting factor amongst Nigerians.”
