Good job: Customs intercepts 1,000 rounds of imported ammunition

– The arms, ammunition and a suspect arrested in connection with the seizure, have been handed over to the State Security Service (SSS)
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tin-Can Island command has intercepted a 40 ft. container with 980 rounds of 9mm type live ammunition and a pistol imported into the country from the U.S, NAN reports.
Chris Osunkwo, the spokesman of the command, stated this in a statement on Tuesday, February 16, in Lagos.

According to the statement, the area controller of the command, Bashar Yusuf, said the seizure, including camouflage military face cap, camouflage belt, a pair of hand gloves and a pair of shoes, were concealed along with other personal effects in two vehicles.
Yusuf said the arms and ammunition and a suspect who was arrested in connection with the seizure, had been handed over to the State Security Service (SSS) for further investigation.
James Udo, the officer-in-charge of SSS at Tin Can Island Port, explained the danger such importation could have on members of the public, if it had escaped customs’ attention.
Udo said security must be a collective responsibility.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) had said that it would generate N1 trillion revenue generation for the federal government, this year.
The comptroller general of the service, Hameed Ali disclosed this on Tuesday, January 26, during the International Customs Day in Abuja. He further stated the commitment of the NCS towards reinvigorated the system despite its sole dependence on export and imports.
