Manny Pacquiao: Boxer apologizes for anti-gay comment
This has damaged his senate seat credential as fellow politicians, national celebrities and gay rights groups took turns to condemn his anti-gay comments
World champion boxer turned politician, Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, apologized for his comment calling people in gay relationships “worse than animals” during an interview with a television broadcaster, which resulted in a world wide rage.
In a video that was shared widely online on Monday, Pacquiao told the TV5 network in the Philippines: “It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women, they are worse than animals.”
This has damaged his senate seat credential as fellow politicians, national celebrities and gay rights groups took turns to condemn his anti-gay comments.

He penned his apology on Instagram saying, “I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,”.
“Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning L.G.B.T. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.”
The story gained special attention considering Pacquiao's sport celebrity status.
His boxing opponent, Floyd Mayweather reacted to the comment in an interview with TMZ saying, “I think we should all stay positive,”
“I feel that we should let people live their lives the way they want to live their lives. I have nothing against anyone. To each his own.”
