Breaking: Boko Haram arms manufacturer arrested

– DSS recovers two pistols, 80 rounds of live ammunition and several sensitive documents from alleged Boko Haram arms manufacturer

– His associates arrested at different locations in Jos the Plateau state capital 

The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of Musa Garba Abubakar an alleged major gun fabricator and arms-runner for the Boko Haram group.

In a statement on Saturday, March 5, the agency said Musa Garba Abubakar (Engr) aka Muhadis Musa Bin Haddad, was arrested at Jos, Plateau state, during a special tactical operation by the service on March 3, 2016.

Some of the items reportedly recovered from him during his arrest include: two pistols, 80 rounds of live ammunition and several sensitive documents.

As part of his covert operations for Boko Haram, DSS said Musa “in a bid to employ propaganda to manipulate the international community against the efforts of the Federal Government, in the ongoing war against terror in the North-West region, MUSA had approached a foreign mission in Nigeria for logistics and financial support to fight the Boko Haram”.

“However, unknown to the mission, he is actually an unauthorized gun-maker/runner with intent for mischief and communal strife in the North Central region.”

The agency stated that other associated of the suspected gun-runner were also arrested on March 2, namely, Umar Khalil Muhammed who was arrested at Layin Oscar in Jos South LGA, while Mohammed Yakubu Tahir aka Mallam Yaro was picked up at Mista Ali area, along Jos-Zaria road in Bassa LGA .

The duo are described as active marketers of Abubakar and his products to criminal elements in the north-central region of the country.

Other arrests made by the DSS in its counter-terrorism operation, include the arrest of one Armaya’u Yakubu aka Ali Tekwando, Yakubu Sule and Usman Ibrahim on 3rd March, 2016, at Hayin Danmani area in Kaduna metropolis.

“The trio were members of an extremist cell under the coordination of YAKUBU, with affiliation to the proscribed extremist group, ANSARU and have been perfecting plans to travel to Sudan, for terrorist training with other radical elements of the group,” according to the agency.

In recent times Nigerian security forces gave recorded strings of victories against Boko Haram fighters. On Thursday, March 3, troops attacked the spiritual power base of the insurgents at the Alagarno forest, Borno state.

In another raid, soldiers on a clearance operations of the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents at Kumshe in Borno state made startling discoveries of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory, rockets and high claibre ammunitions.

Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has taken new measure to curb Boko Haram activities in the state.

Daily Post reports that the governor on March 4 announced the ban on sale of dried meat as intelligence report revealed that the terrorists group currently engages in cattle rusting to fund their operations.

The governor said government had also suspended importation of cattle to the state capital for the next two weeks.

He noted that only the butchers association and cattle traders association be allowed to slaughter and sell cattle in the market.
