Naij.com takes a look at activities of the Islamist terror group, Boko Haram this week so far (Sunday, February 28 – Friday, March 4).
The insurgents group which was described by Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as ‘technically defeated‘, has over the months shown their strength consistently.

However, for the first time in weeks, there has not been any reported Boko Haram attack so far. Is it now safe to say that President Muhammadu Buhari has fulfilled one of his campaign promises, which was to defeat the insurgents?
The insurgency which began in 2009, has cut short several lives, displaced a lot of innocent Nigerians and caused a huge loss of properties.
Ever since, the activities of Boko Haram have spread to Cameroon, Chad, and Niger thus becoming a major regional conflict.

During the course of the week, President Buhari berated the Boko Haram terrorists group, saying they are no longer in position to cause serious threat to his administration’s development programmes.

Instead of success for the insurgents, the Nigerian army has over the past months recorded victory in the ant-insurgency war.

On Friday, March 4, at least five Boko Haram fighters escaping through Sabsawa axis of Sambisa forest were confirmed dead and several others injured following an attack by troops of 21 Brigade Bama, under 7 Division of the Nigerian Army.
The Deference Headquarters in a statement which was made available to Naij.com stated that some items recovered following the operation include a Toyota Hilux, 2 AK-47 rifles with registration numbers 58006915 and KO 35839, as well as 37 rounds of 12.7mm metal linked ammunition.
The Nigerian army also destroyed the insurgents spiritual power base at the Alagarno forest, Borno state.
Disclosing details of the offensive against the insurgents, the acting director army public relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman in a statement made available to Naij.com, said the offensive was carried out by troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion of 25 Task Force Brigade, 7 Division Nigerian Army on Thursday, March 3.
