– Popularly called Mama Taraba, Nigeria’s minister of women affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan is currently attending the 60th Session of the Commission for the Status of Women in New York
– Among those in the minister’s delegation are Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
Tagged #CSW60, the session is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, March 14 to Thursday, March 24.
Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are participating in the session
The theme of the session is Women’s Empowerment and its link to Sustainable Development.
Senator Alhassan has been championing the advocacy for women empowerment in Nigeria and according to her ”it is the surest and fastest route to sustainable development.”
Tinubu is attending the session in her capacity as the chairperson of the Senate committee on women affairs.
Senator Alhassan also made Nigeria proud when she chaired the Commonwealth Annual Consultation of National Women’s Machineries at the UN headquarters yesterday, March 14.
The meeting was critical to discuss what has worked and what has not worked in gender equality from 2005 – 2015 worldwide.
