Nollywood star responds to controversies around marital status

– Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus, speaks on controversies surrounding her rumoured marriages to different men at different times

– Adds that she will settle down at the right time

Nollywood actress Nkiru Sylvanus has spoken to Punch on the controversies she has faced in her acting career till date.

Several times in the past, the actress had been rumoured to be in a marriage but she came out on each occasion to dismiss the claims.

A version of one of the reports even claimed the actress was so much in need of a marriage she once agreed to enter a marriage with a prominent Northerner as his second wife.

This is how much she has been smeared by controversial talks with respect to settling down in a relationship with a man.

But in a recent chat with Punch, she alluded to being in a relationship even though she declined speaking further on whom she was currently seeing.

She said: “I should be dating, don’t you think so?

“I will settle down whenever it comes, it is a thing of the mind, so when you think your mind is ready to settle down, you will. For me, it could be now, it could be tomorrow, next year or next five years”

She spoke further on the situation adding that she has no definite time in mind to settle down.

She also talked about the advances she gets from admirers and how she has managed to say no without hurting anyone’s feelings.

She said: “Male fans will always try to woo me, it’s part of living, but you have to have a polite way of saying no. If I say no, I mean no.”

Responding to the rumours often peddled about her personal life and how this makes her feel, Nkiru explained that she is used to all such talks.

She added that she had spent enough time in the movie industry to get used to the allegations.

She seems to have taken everything in her strides as she claimed the rumours were part of remaining relevant in the entertainment industry.

She said: “Controversy is part of life. If nobody talks about you, then you don’t exist. So, it is good when people talk about you. It helps you to shape up your life, it makes you to work harder to surprise people the more and make them understand that it is not really about what they think; it’s about who you are and who you want to be.”

Recall that following Nkiru’s political appointment to the position of Special Assistant by Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha, she took a break from Nollywood.

She addressed the issue saying she never left the movie industry and has no plans of leaving.

She further disclosed plans to make more movies in 2016.

She said: “I never left Nollywood. All I am saying is that I will do more movies this year. I took a break but I didn’t leave Nollywood and I will never leave Nollywood. I gave myself a break because I felt I needed a time out.”

The A-list actress has had a great dose of controversies in the last few years.

In 2014, she was in a rumoured relationship with Mr. Stanley Duru the ex-husband of another Nollywood star Oge Okoye.

When the affair had lasted some time and was marriage-bound, Oge and Nkiru became visibly at loggerheads with one another. It was so bad that Nkiru reportedly saw Oge at an event in Enugu and greeted everyone gathered there except her, according to a source.

Daily Post reported further that Nkiru was first in a relationship with Stanley before Oge came into the picture, snatched him away from her and then went on to deliver two kids for him.

Nkiru has also been linked to Umar Sani, an aide to former vice president Namadi Sambo. The pair were rumoured to have secretly wedded in January 2013, a claim she has denied a number of times
