Albino kids get born in all the nations. Many a time people come up with mythical explanations of this condition. These 10 myths are common and pretty terrifying. They get busted on the Albinism Awareness Day!

Unfortunately, people with albinism have many troubles in life. In African, they cannot even feel safe and dread for their lives. Only in Tanzania during the last 10 years over 70 albinos were murdered just for being different from everybody else. So, knowing the truth and sharing it with others can save someone’s life!

Busted myths on albinism:

Myth #1 – Albinism is a curse

People used to believe albinos were cursed by gods or evil spirits. Such a punishment was born to them for what their ancestors have done, so the whole family has become suspected of evildoing.

The truth:

People with this condition are unable to produce a paint called melanin. That’s why their skin and hair remain white.

Myth #2 – Albinos are the kids born form incest

In some nations, families get marriages between closely related people. And they believed albinos came from incest.

The truth:

Surely, albinism is a genetic condition, but it has nothing to do with incest! Many studies have been carried out on this subject, but none of them showed any correlation between the two.

Myth #3 – People with this condition would have spotty kids

The truth:

It’s in the genes. If both partners have albinism gene, they may have similar kids. However, if one of them does not possess it, the kids would be just normal.

Myth #4 – Albinos never die, just disappear

The truth:

They are just regular people and due to many of such superstitions their lives are in danger and can be much shorter than yours.

Myth #5 – People like that can see in the dark, just like cats.

The truth:

They are not cats, and their sight may be a bit different, but not better. In some cases, albinos suffer from poor sight both in the light and in the dark.

Myth #6 – They are not smart

In some nations, they think that albinos cannot study and get an education, and they are dumb.

The truth:

The amount of melanin in the skin has no effect on your brain. So, they can study and perform well in tertiary institutions.

Myth #7 – They cannot have kids

The truth:

Sterility is not one of the side effects of albinism and never was!

Myth #8 – One of the albino parents is white

In African countries, people thought that the woman slept with a white man to give birth to such a child.

The truth:

It’s not true, and albinos are born in Western countries, too, regardless of the color of the skin of their parents.

Myth #9 – Drinking their blood can make you strong and give you power

In some tribes, people believed that eating their meat or drinking blood endowed you with magical powers.

The truth:

Cannibalism has never done any good to any person! Period!

Myth #10 – You can make a charm out of an albino body part

Again, in some countries they believed it and killed them to use their bodies as charms.

The truth:

Murder is a sin punished by God, and it does not really matter what the skin color of the murdered person was!

As you can see, albinism has nothing to do with magic. In fact, black people are black because they have much of melanin in their skin. People with dark eyes have more of melanin in them than those with blue eyes. Albinos lack melanin, and that’s their only problem!
