This warning by the peace building group thus counters the agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and other related organisations for the country to break up or for regional secession.

UPC declared that the call for secession is counterproductive as all parts of the country are inter-dependent.

Daily Trust reports that the secretary-general of the UPF Nigeria, Dr Raphael Ogar Oko, made the declaration in Minna, the Niger state capital on Monday, July 18 at the presentation of the 2016 award of Ambassador for Peace to Reverend Father Christian Levi Achinivu.

The award was presented by the UPF and the Muslim Interreligious Peace Foundation.

Dr Oko cited the United States of America which derives its strength from its size and population as well as its human resources.

He urged Nigerians to do everything to keep the country united while advising governments at all levels to address the grievances of aggrieved segments of the country.

Oko said Father Achinivu was found worthy in deeds and character, and had been of service to humanity.

In his remark, the Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Reverend Martin Uzoukwu, commended the recipient for meriting the award and urged him to continue in his service to mankind.

Rcently, Igbo leaders and politicians had dissociated themselves from the agitation for secession stressing instead that indigenes from the south-east should focus on developing the area.
