A group under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has advised the Senate President, Bukola Saraki not to succumb to any form intimidation to step down as the president of the Senate, Daily Post reports.
Comrade Shehu Usman, the chairman of the group, in a statement issued on Friday, March 4, alleged that Saraki’s trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, was politically motivated by his opponents who were envious of his rising profile.
The statement reads in part: “We are confident and sure that soon Senator Bukola Saraki will be vindicated and acquitted from all the allegations”.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter wishes to state and affirm our unalloyed support to the president of the senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki in the current challenge faced at the Code of Conduct Tribunal”.

”The teeming youths of Kwara call on politicians in the country to stop politics by considering the efforts of Senator Saraki in establishing a virile national assembly with good working relationship with the executive arm of government and also his invaluable contributions to the emergence of the present government of change we are enjoying in Nigeria today,” the statement further said.
Saraki had earlier vowed not to resign from his position, in spite of the growing calls and increasing pressure for him to step down.
According to him, his assets declaration trial is more of ‘persecution’ than an actual fight against corruption. When asked by newsmen why he had thus far, failed to walk away from the position of Senate President, he said: “It is not a fight against corruption, it is more about being persecuted.”
